TONDA CHAPMAN, MBA

Tonda Chapman, MBA​

Chief Executive Officer and Founding Partner, Black Horse Health Institute

Tonda B. Chapman is a seasoned executive, trauma-informed care advocate, and transformational leader with an extensive background in healthcare operations, behavioral health, and financial services. As the Founding CEO of Black Horse Health Institute, she brings more than 30 years of experience leading mission-driven organizations and developing programs that support whole-person healing.

Holding a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in healthcare, Chapman blends strategic business acumen with a heart-centered, servant leadership style. Her approach is rooted in empowering staff, creating safe environments for clients, and developing integrative care models that address complex trauma, addiction, and chronic pain.

At Black Horse Health, she leads an innovative team delivering multidimensional care grounded in polyvagal theory, attachment repair, somatic experiencing, EMDR, ART, CBT, DBT, and experiential therapies such as equine therapy, aqua therapy, mindfulness, psychodrama, and sound healing. Her vision is grounded in neurobiological safety: helping individuals feel safe enough to relax, breathe, and heal.

Currently pursuing graduate studies in social work, Chapman is committed to deepening her clinical expertise and becoming a trauma specialist. Her goal is to bridge leadership, clinical innovation, and compassionate care to uplift individuals, families, and communities impacted by trauma. With a steadfast dedication to justice and healing, she envisions systems where safety, dignity, and growth are possible for all.

TONY CHAPMAN

Tony Chapman

Chief Operations Officer and Founding Partner, Black Horse Health Institute

A seasoned operations and finance professional, Chapman has amassed an extensive, diverse career in banking, agri-business, and healthcare. A graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in Finance, he began his career in commercial banking, spending 18 years specializing in branch management and large commercial loan development. He ultimately served as a regional district manager, overseeing multiple bank branches.

Following his banking career, Tony became a partner and co-owner of a community agri-business that operated three retail locations, a cotton gin, and five cotton warehouses. He managed all financial operations and employee relations, playing a key role in the growth and eventual sale of the business.

Tony later transitioned to the healthcare sector in Houston, managing accounts receivable and developing strong working relationships with a network of independent health clinics while gaining expertise in private insurance and workers’ compensation benefits.

In 2015, he began working in the treatment industry as an Operations Manager. His role encompassed day-to-day operations, safety protocols, event planning, and construction oversight.

In February 2023, Chapman co-founded Black Horse Health Institute. As Chief Operations Officer, he spearheaded the transformation of a commercial property in Houston’s historic Heights neighborhood into a state-of-the-art treatment center. The facility features a heated pool, open courtyard with fire pit, fully equipped gym, cold plunge, and infrared sauna — offering a holistic healing environment designed for excellence in trauma, addiction, and chronic pain recovery.

Lisa Hale, LPC, LCDC

Counselor

Lisa brings more than 15 years of professional experience to her role as a counselor for Black Horse Health, having worked in a variety of settings including residential treatment centers, psychiatric hospitals, outpatient programs, and community agencies. A licensed professional counselor supervisor and licensed chemical dependency counselor, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. She has completed training in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and a variety of addictions. As someone recovering from alcoholism (she is 18 years sober), Lisa has a special place in her heart for helping individuals and families negotiate addiction and recovery journeys. Away from her professional duties, she enjoys spending time with er family, enjoying the outdoors, and playing pickleball.

Paul A. Davis

Doctor of Chiropractic

With a Doctor of Chiropractic degree and a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Texas Chiropractic College, Paul Davis has spent more than two decades in physical rehabilitation and chiropractic care. With expertise in pain management and treating a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, Davis specializes in using advanced physical rehabilitation and manual therapy techniques. For the past 10 years he has worked in a pain recovery program helping patients reduce their pain and improve their performance and overall wellness without the need for addictive pain medication.

David Castele, LCSW

Primary Therapist

A Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in Houston since 2019, Castele is a passionate advocate for individuals and families making meaningful, lasting change by working together to identify and remove the barriers impeding personal growth and healing. His clinical background includes a range of experiences in settings focused on mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. Early in his career, he completed a year-long fellowship in an intensive outpatient program, which laid the foundation for his client-centered and evidence-based approach.

He since has worked in residential and outpatient programs, supporting both adolescents and adults as they navigate complex mental health challenges. Throughout his career he’s served in roles as a family therapist and clinical director, where he deepened his understanding of holistic and systems-based treatment – always with the belief that everyone has the capacity for change, growth, and healing with the right support. In recovery himself, Castele endeavors to give back to the community by dedicating his professional career to positively impacting those affected by addiction. Outside of work he enjoys a variety of hobbies including woodworking, fishing, and spending time by the water. Having grown up in Northeastern Ohio, he’s also a huge Cleveland sports fan, taking every opportunity to cheer for his teams.

MONTE ROSE, LCDC-A

Monte Rose, LCDC-I

Primary Clinician

As a licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), Certified Co-Dependency Specialist and Certified Anger Resolutions Therapist, Rose brings both professional expertise and lived experience to his work. As a Primary Therapist, Rose specializes in Substance Use Disorders and Co-Occurring Mental Health Disorders. In addition to his role at Black Horse Health Institute, Rose is the owner/operator of Primary Purpose House, a sober living community dedicated to providing structure, accountability, and compassion to those in early recovery.

With more than a decade in long-term recovery himself, Rose is deeply committed to helping others break free from the cycle of addiction and discover a life of meaning, connection, and purpose. Known for his ability to walk alongside individuals in even their darkest moments, Rose’s approach is grounded in empathy, spiritual principles, and the belief that lasting change is possible for anyone willing to do the work. Outside of his professional life, he finds joy in volunteering and cherishes time spent with his family. His passion for recovery is matched by his love for community and connection — values he brings into both his personal and professional life every day.

Marie Deschamps, PhD, LPC-A, ATR-P

Postdoctoral Creative Arts Therapist

Dr. Marie Deschamps (she, her) is a multicultural art psychotherapist, researcher, and artist with clinical and academic experience in Spain, Mexico, and the United States. She holds a PhD in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University, a master’s in Counseling and Art Therapy from Edgewood College, and a master’s in Public Policy and Governance from the London School of Economics/Sciences Po Paris.

At Black Horse Health, Marie is completing postdoctoral training in trauma-informed recovery and provides individual and group sessions using a collaborative expressive arts approach. No artistic skills are required: creative processes such as movement, painting, acting, music, and writing are used as accessible strategies for problem solving, emotional regulation, and building purposeful, connected lives. In this framework, creativity becomes a practical language for discovering inner resources, reframing challenges, and strengthening relationships. Clients learn skills that support resilience, relational healing, and community-building as they move toward sustainable, values-driven change.

Marie’s practice is rooted in experience within hospital-based psychology departments, including pain medicine, palliative care, and oncology, supporting individuals of all ages navigating illness, grief, trauma, and life transitions. She is also a visiting scholar at The New School University (NY) and an innovator developing new approaches at the intersection of art, health data, and artificial intelligence. In addition to her clinical work, she teaches and trains future art therapists across the Americas, guided by her belief in creativity as a force for healing, connection, and transformation.

Courtney Nixon

Director of Business Development

Having worked in multiple facets of the mental and behavioral health field, Courtney Nixon brings informed leadership to her role of growing Black Horse Health’s business profile. By expanding access to care through partnerships and strategic outreach, Nixon ensures a wider reach of treatment and high-quality resources for patients (and their families) in need. In recovery herself, Nixon understands the importance of appropriate treatment and the need to eliminate barriers to care. She is committed to fostering strong relationships for Black Horse Health and serving as a compassionate and effective advocate for the company’s clients and providers.

Angie Woodle

Lead Recovery Advocate

Angie Woodle’s unwavering belief in each person’s capacity for recovery has made her a strong, effective champion for the transformative, life-saving power of recovery. She brings a decade of experience in the industry – including four years as the director of a women’s drug and alcohol recovery center – emerging as a compassionate advocate and a leader in her field. Combining her own recovery journey with collaborative, results-driven strategies, she remains committed to helping others by fostering healing, promoting accountability, and encouraging personal growth.
