OUR PROGRAMS

Black Horse Health focuses on a range of health challenges including substance use disorders, mental health concerns, chronic pain, trauma, and process addictions

We offer specialized programs to address these interconnected areas. Our goal is to guide you toward a balanced, positive, and fulfilling life.

Our Approach

Every person’s journey is unique. This is why our programs are not one-size-fits-all. Instead, we focus on providing tailored care that meets your specific needs, goals, and experiences.

Our treatments combine the best of evidence-based practices, ensuring you get effective care that’s grounded in science, such as trauma-focused therapy. We also incorporate integrative methods, recognizing that healing often requires more than just medicine.

Intensive Assessment

We start your journey with a comprehensive and in-depth assessment. Our medical professionals, therapists, and other experts will evaluate various aspects of your condition to develop a personalized treatment plan.
The assessment process may include:
trauma-focused therapy
Medical Evaluation

Our medical evaluation assesses your physical health, including any potential withdrawal symptoms and overall well-being. This helps us determine the best treatment approach and protects your safety during stabilization or detox.

Psychological Evaluation

We also will evaluate your mental health and any potential co-occurring disorders. This information helps us tailor our treatment to address both a possible substance use disorder along with any other underlying mental health conditions. This approach enables us to provide consistent and reliable care.

Substance Use History

Understanding your substance use history is crucial in developing a personalized treatment plan. We’ll also assess the severity of the possible substance use disorder, as well as any previous treatment attempts and potential relapse risks.

Social Assessment

We also take into account the social factors that may contribute to your health. This includes your relationships, living environment, and support system. This helps us understand how to best support you during treatment and in ongoing recovery.

Personal Goals

We take the time to understand your personal goals, values, and motivations. This helps us align our treatment with what matters most to you and empowers you to make meaningful changes in your life.

What You Should and Shouldn't Do During Assessment

Here are a few tips to make the most out of your assessment process:

  • Do Be Honest: Share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences openly with our team. This helps us accurately assess your needs and develop an effective treatment plan. We don’t judge, and everything you share is kept confidential.
  • Don’t Hold Back: Be as open and transparent as possible. Our team is here to help you — never to judge — and the more information we have, the better equipped we are to support your wellness journey.
  • Do Ask Questions: If you have any questions or concerns during the assessment process, don’t hesitate to ask. We want you to feel comfortable and informed throughout your journey with us.
  • Don’t Be Afraid to Express Your Needs: Your needs and preferences matter, and we want to help you in the best way possible. If there’s something specific that would make your assessment process more comfortable or effective, let us know.
  • Don’t Compare Yourself: Every individual’s journey is unique, and comparing yourself to others can be counterproductive. Focus on your personal growth instead of comparing yourself to others in treatment.
  • Do Trust the Process: The assessment is just the beginning of your treatment journey. Trust that our team has your best interests at heart and will work with you every step of the way to help you achieve lasting recovery.

What Happens After Assessment?

Once we have a comprehensive understanding of your condition and needs, we work collaboratively with you to develop an individualized treatment plan.

This may include inpatient or outpatient treatment, as well as various therapies and approaches tailored to your unique situation.

Substance Use Detoxification & Mental Health Stabilization

Detoxification is the process of clearing substances from the body. We provide medical detox, which means our medical team supervises this process while making it more comfortable for the individual.

Who Is This Program For?

Our detox and stabilization program is designed for:

Anyone who requires medical assistance to safely detox

Individuals with severe withdrawal symptoms

Individuals with mental health symptoms when they try to stop using substances

Individuals with a co-occurring mental health disorder that need medication stabilization

Why Detox?

Choosing to detox means that you’re taking the first step towards a healthier and positive life.

Detox can help:

Manage Withdrawal Symptoms

Undergoing detox with medical supervision eases the symptoms from intense withdrawal and promotes safety, as abrupt cessation of some substances can be harmful without proper care.

Examples of mild symptoms may be anxiety or trouble sleeping. However, more severe ones may even be life-threatening, like seizures or heart issues.

Our team at Black Horse Health is here to provide reliable and evidence-based care that helps individuals overcome and work through these withdrawal symptoms safely.

Creating the Path for Recovery

Detoxing or stabilization in a controlled environment improves your physical well-being and provides mental clarity. With a clear mind, you’re better equipped to engage with subsequent treatments, understand risk factors for relapse, and build strategies to stay balanced and healthy.

What Happens After Detox or Stabilization?

Detox or stabilization is the first step on your recovery journey. Once you’ve successfully completed this phase, we’ll discuss the best next steps. This might include inpatient treatment, outpatient programs, or other suitable treatment opportunities.

Residential Treatment

Residential treatment is a program where individuals stay at our facility full-time and receive around-the-clock care in a structured and supportive environment.

The main goal is to provide a safe place for recovery. By staying with us, you can focus entirely on your healing, away from potential risks or distractions.

Who Is This Program For?

This program is designed for those who:

May have tried outpatient treatment but need more intensive care

Want to immerse themselves in recovery

Need medical supervision because of withdrawal symptoms or other health concerns

Why Choose Inpatient Residential Treatment?

There are several reasons to consider inpatient residential treatment, such as:

Safety

Our facility offers a secure environment. This environment is free from substances, stressors, or distractions that could be potential obstacles in your recovery journey.

Being in a controlled environment, allows you to focus solely on your healing and wellness.

Medical Supervision

Supervision is a cornerstone of inpatient residential treatment. Some individuals experience withdrawal symptoms or have specific health concerns related to their condition. Having constant medical oversight provides an extra layer of safety, allowing your medical needs to be addressed promptly.

Full Immersion

Unlike outpatient treatment options, inpatient residential treatment means you are surrounded by therapeutic support all day, every day. This continuous immersion can make a profound difference in recovery, allowing for more consistent and purposeful progress.

Peer Support

Staying with others who are on a similar recovery journey offers a unique form of camaraderie. Sharing experiences, challenges, and triumphs with those who truly understand your struggles can be a significant morale booster and may reinforce the commitment to recovery.

What to Expect During Your Stay

During your stay at Black Horse Health’s inpatient residential program, you will have:

  • A structured daily routine that includes therapy sessions, group meetings, and recreational activities
  • The compassionate care from our expert team, which has over 100 years of combined experience
  • Personalized attention with our low clinical staff-to-client ratio.
  • Access to various therapeutic modalities, such as art therapy, CBT, yoga, and more
  • Opportunities to learn and practice essential recovery tools in a supportive community

What Happens After Residential Treatment

Once you have completed the residential program, we will work with you to create a balanced aftercare plan. This might include transitioning to an outpatient program or other forms of continued therapy.

You will also be invited to join our weekly alumni aftercare program. This provides continuity in your recovery journey. The relationships and skills you have built during your stay will serve as a strong foundation for your ongoing healing and growth.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

A partial hospitalization program is a treatment option that provides structured, intensive care while allowing individuals to return home at the end of each day.
This program can be an effective and life-changing step-down from residential treatment. It also offers a more intensive alternative to outpatient care.

Who Is This Program For?

A PHP may be suitable for individuals who:

Complete residential treatment and are ready to transition into a less intensive program

Need more support than traditional outpatient treatment can provide

Require close monitoring for ongoing medical or mental health needs.

Why Choose a Partial Hospitalization Program?

There are several reasons to consider a PHP, including:

More Flexibility

Unlike residential treatment, a PHP allows individuals to reside at home. This offers more flexibility and can be beneficial for those who have personal commitments or need a slow transition back into daily life.

Structured Treatment During the Day

Similar to inpatient programs, a PHP offers a structured daily routine with therapy sessions, group meetings, and other activities. This level of structure can be helpful for individuals transitioning out of RTC care or who need additional support to maintain their recovery and mental health or need more support.

Circle

What to Expect During PHP

Like residential treatment, our PHP offers a personalized and intensive program that includes:

  • Structured daily routine with a mix of individual therapy, group therapy, and other activities
  • Access to our expert team for ongoing support and guidance
  • Opportunities to develop and practice life skills in a supportive environment

What Happens After Partial Hospitalization Program?

Our team will work with you to develop a comprehensive aftercare plan if you need ongoing support by offering a step-down program such as intensive outpatient treatment.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is an intermediate level of care between partial hospitalization and traditional outpatient treatment.
It offers more structure and support than traditional outpatient but allows for greater flexibility compared to inpatient or partial hospitalization programs.

The Difference Between an IOP and a PHP

While these programs do have some similarities, there are a few key differences:

Time Commitment

A PHP typically requires individuals to attend treatment for 6-8 hours per day, while an IOP usually involves 3-5 hours of treatment each day.

Intensity of Treatment

A PHP typically offers more intensive treatment compared to an IOP, which focuses on maintaining and building upon the progress made during residential or PHP treatment.

On the other hand, an IOP may be more suitable for individuals who have completed residential treatment or PHP and are looking for continued support while transitioning back into their daily lives.

Why Choose an IOP

An intensive outpatient program stands out for several reasons, such as:

A Balance Between Treatment and Daily Life

An IOP strikes a harmony between receiving treatment and continuing with daily responsibilities. This means that even as you undergo therapy sessions several times a week, you can still attend to your job, school, or family commitments.

It offers a structured treatment environment without the need for overnight stays. This can be particularly beneficial for those who have begun their wellness journey and are ready to start reintegrating into their daily routines.

Continued Support and Accountability

An IOP provides ongoing support and accountability, especially during the transitional period after more intensive treatment. It can also help prevent relapse by providing a safe and supportive environment to practice life skills.

What to Expect During an IOP

During your time in our IOP, you can expect:

  • Regular therapy sessions
  • Opportunities to build and practice essential life skills for maintaining your health
  • Supportive guidance from our experienced team of professionals

What Happens After Intensive Outpatient Program?

After completing an IOP, your journey to optimal health is not over. Our team will work with you to create an aftercare plan that best suits your needs. We also encourage you to join our alumni program.

Alumni Program

Our alumni program offers a community for those who have completed any of our treatment programs. It serves as a space to stay connected, share experiences, and continue the journey of recovery together.

Reasons to Engage With the Alumni Community

The road to full health requires ongoing support, engagement, and practice. We provide all of this in our alumni program. Here’s a closer look at what our program provides:

Ongoing Connection

After completing any of our programs, you may feel a strong bond with the facility, the staff, and fellow peers. The alumni program provides a platform to maintain these connections.

By staying connected, you can lean on familiar faces and surroundings, which can often serve as comforting reminders of the progress made.

Shared Experience

Our alumni program offers a unique space where everyone understands the challenges faced while healing from mental health issues or substance use disorder. This creates an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Sharing experiences with peers who have walked the same path can offer invaluable insights and encouragement.

Accountability

The journey of recovery can have its challenging moments. Sometimes, you might face temptations or risks. In these times, the alumni program acts as a safety net, offering you a space to voice concerns, seek guidance, or find reassurance.

Social Integration

While the primary focus is on healing your mind and body, the alumni program also offers a chance to engage in social activities. These activities can serve as a great way to foster friendships, build trust, and enjoy some recreational time, all within a supportive environment.

  • Shared Healing: The entire family begins to heal through our family program. By addressing concerns, emotions, and patterns, everyone benefits.

Family Program Sessions & Activities

Our family program comprises various sessions and activities tailored to foster understanding and growth. These may include:
